Things To Know Before Getting A Dog

Hi everyone,

Today I wanted to do a post all about  what you should know before getting a dog because getting a dog isn’t a decision that should be taken lightly.Dogs require a lot of love and time and if you don’t feel you can offer that to a dog then maybe it’s not time for you to get a dog, that is why I’ve put together a list of things that you should know before you decide to get a dog so hopefully it helps you out!

1.)They Require A Lot Of Attention – Expecially at their puppy stages they require 24/7 supervision, you just never know what they’re going to get up to.Take your eyes off them for a minute and before you know it their chewing wires and peeing on your new shoes. They’re always up to mischief, even when they aren’t puppies, which of course is half the fun but even so you want to keep them safe.

2.)They Get Lonely – Just like humans they get lonely. They like having someone with them to keep them company and they don’t like being left alone for long periods of time. You have to be willing to give up some of your time to spend time with them because when you’re gone they miss you!

3.)They Are Expensive – With a dog comes the responsibility of vet bills, dog food, toys, treats and anything else that they need. You always find yourself buying something for them and all of these things don’t come cheap.

4.)Training Takes Time – Don’t expect them to be trained within a week.Every dog is different and they all learn things at different rates.House training and training them tricks all takes time and patience.

5.)You Become Their World – You are the most important person in the world to them, you are their parent. They miss you when you’re not there and they’re so happy when you come back. They love you and you have to be willing to give them the love they deserve.

6.A Dog Is for Life – A Dog is not something you can get bored of.When you get a dog you make a commitment to the dog that you will be there for it,protect it and love it and if you don’t think you’re ready for that commitment then don’t get a dog.

7.)They Aren’t Perfect – Dogs aren’t perfect. They make a lot of mistakes and do things that they aren’t supposed to do but that’s life and you just have to accept it and move on.

I’m no dog expert,I’m just sharing some things that I’ve learned from having my dogs but hopefully something in this post helps you out if you are thinking of getting a dog:)

Leave any tips that you’ve learned from having a dog in the comments below!

Thanks for reading,
