Goodbye TY

Hi everyone,

So yesterday was my very last day of transition year.I didn’t want it to pass without writing a little something about it because it was a really great year and I am glad that I chose to do it.

This year I have made friends and talked to people who I never thought I would talk to.Aswell as making new friends I have also gotten even closer with my other friends.I was fortunate enough to be out in a class this year which I was so happy with, everyone in the class got on really well together and there was never a bad atmosphere.

This year presented me with many opportunities such as work experience, trips and many other different projects.I chose to do two weeks work experience at a dog shelter and this was actually my very first time working,it wasn’t what I expected but I’m still glad I went there all the same because I loved being able to make a difference in the dogs day.

I also went on Outdoor Pursuits for 3 days with some of my school year,it was such an amazing 3 days full of outdoor activities and when I think back on this trip I think to myself “I can’t believe I did that”.I jumped off Cliffs into the sea and never did I ever think I would do that considering in such a nervous person.I went surfing in the sea and caught some huge waves,We went hiking in the forest,we all sat around a campfire singing songs and honestly it was just a really great 3 days with my school year.

This year my class also made a short film promoting mental health and it luckily got through to the Cast Film Festival final. We all got dressed up and headed off to Dublin for the evening,it was such a fun evening and everyone really enjoyed themselves. Our movie was also nominated for a few awards and we won an award for the movie which raised a lot of awareness.

This year I was also part of the school bank team which was quite a good experience because I never really did anything like that before. We got through to the finals in Dublin and we all dressed up as genies because our bank was called the “Dream big bank”.

Another reason for us all to get dressed up was our TY Ball. This was such a fun night and definitely one of the main ighlights of TY.Again there was such a good atmosphere and everyone was so happy. My friends and I had such a good night together and everyone looked great all dressed up.

These are just a small fraction of the many things TY had to offer. If I was to talk about everything that happened this year I would be typing for ages, but I think the main thing I’m trying to get across is that I had a really great year with my friends and I’m really sad that it has now come to an end.Im also really sad that I’ll be in a different class next year because I was so happy with my class this year and we all got on really well.I’m thankful for the opportunities TY gave to me and the friends that I have made/grown closer to this year.

Thanks for reading,

Ciara X

TY is such a wonderful experience and I honestly think I learnt more that year than in all the other 5 put together. So many amazing life experiences you just don’t get in normal classes! best of luck in your final couple of years! Xx
