Book Review:If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to my blog.Today I’m going to be doing another book review. If you read my book haul then you would know that I recently purchased “If I Was Yoour Girl” by Meredith Russo and today I finished reading it so I thought why not do a book review so that if some of you are on the look out for a new book then maybe this will help you decide whether or not to read this particular book.

Story line:
Amanda Hardy is starting a new school because she’s moved town and is now gone to live with her dad.She desperatley wants a normal teen life and just wants to make a good group of friends although nothing is ever as simple and straight forward as it seems because Amanda has a secret,in her previous school she was known as Andrew.Amanda begins to fall in love and this adds to all of the drama yet to unfold.Amanda is a trans girl and the only people who know about this part of her life is her family and a girl at her new school called “Bee”.Amanda trusted Bee with her secret which she soon lives to regret as Bee reveals all infront of the entire school at their Prom.

Review:
I have never read anything like this before and I feel like it thought me a lot.It is such a powerful story and it really does open your eyes.Amanda is such a strong and courageous character that I feel everyone could take a leaf out of her book.If you think you have problems you should try walking in Amanda Hardy’s shoes for a day.I’m not saying that your problems don’t matter but sometimes we can find ourselves complaining about the smallest things and then there are people like Amanda Hardy who face so many challenges in life when all they’re doing is being themselves that it almost makes me want to cry at how cruel people were to her.

Amanda is for sure the bravest character from a book that I have ever read and she carries herself with such pride and dignity that I feel all women should admire. Not only does this book teach us about Amanda’s transitoning journey but it also teaches us that it IS okay to be yourself and you shouldn’t try to be a certain way or act a certain way just because everyone else expects you to.Be yourself and the right people will come into your life because at the end of the day it’s your happieness that matters and if you’re not happy with something in your life then only you can change that.

I’m so happy that I picked this book up in the store because it has thought me so many things and it has just really had a good impact on my life.Amanda is an amazing character and I really cannot praise her or this book enough.

Writing style:
The writing style was really easy to follow and it wasn’t too heavy,it was easy to understand at all times what was happening and I loved how Meredith included sections of Amanda’s past before and after her transition, this added to the understanding of her journey.Overall this book would be a suitable read for advanced and not so advanced readers because the style of writing isn’t too challenging or complicated.

Conclusion:
I really cannot praise this book or Meredith enough. It is such a powerful and brave stpry that I feel everyone needs to read.I don’t just suggest you should read this book,I feel you need to read it.I strongly believe that this book has the power to change peoples mindsets and I hope that if you do read it you fall in love with Amanda as much as I have.

Thanks for reading,
